Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Shiraz Viognier 2010 Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Shiraz Viognier 2010

Willunga 100 is located in McLaren Vale region, south of Adelaide in Australia. The wines come from a range of premium vineyards, including some over 50 years old, which can produce a magnificent array of aromas and flavours and this Côte Rôtie style blend combines the power of the Shiraz with the perfume and delicacy of the Viognier.

ONLY AVAILABLE IN AN UNSLPLIT CASE OF SIX

VINEYARD
A mixture of old and ancient vineyards have been used across a range of 'terroirs' in the district. Sandy soils provide lifted aromatics, and darker soils including 'Terra Rossa' types contribute to rich, bold tannins. All the vineyards are managed to produce the highest quality possible with only the best parcels selected for Willunga 100. McLaren Vale has a warm Mediterranean climate with a strong influence from the gulf of St Vincent - giving cool maritime evenings perfect for ripening grapes

GRAPE VARIETIES
95% Shiraz, 5% Viognier

VINIFICATION
Parcels of Shiraz were harvested in late February and March, with each one fermented separately, using open fermenters. 5% Viognier was added to be co-fermented with the Shiraz, bringing added complexity, freshness and aromatic lift, while also helping with colour.

Warm fermentation temperatures combined with regular pump-overs and plunging ensured optimum extraction. Only the best parcels were selected to produce the wine, which was matured in older French and American oak for structure and a small portion in new French oak to add complexity to the blend.

TASTING NOTE
The Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Shiraz Viognier 2010 is deep red/purple in colour, the wine is a heady mix of dark berry fruit, with earthy nuances and lifted florals from the addition of Viognier. Excellent structure, it has great depth and richness of plums and blackberries with supportive, balanced oak and a lingering finish.
