TINPOT HUT PINOT GRIS 2011 TINPOT HUT PINOT GRIS 2011

Winemaker Fiona Turner has worked on many of the most successful wines made in Marlborough and Tinpot Hut is her solo venture. This recently released this Pinot Gris is from a variety that is doing well in Marlborough. It has fragrant aromas of spice, pear and stone fruit with underlying notes of brioche and freshly cut spring flowers.

VINEYARD
Most of the fruit for this wine was sourced from two vineyards from different subregions within Marlborough`s Wairau plains; with about a third from the southern Omaka Valley, and about two-thirds from the Rapaura area. A small parcel from the clay soils of the Wairau?s Southern Valleys was used for the balance. Each parcel of fruit was carefully monitored during ripening so it could be harvested at optimum maturity in cool conditions.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Gris

VINIFICATION
The 2011 growing season was characterised by a summer of excellent plant growth, the result of timely early and mid-season periods of rain. From an even bud burst and favourable fruit set, vine condition remained excellent through to harvest. The latter part of summer was marked by settled weather with mild temperatures and slightly warmer nights than usual, resulting in excellent flavour intensity and physiological ripeness across all varieties at lower than normal sugar levels.

After harvest, the fruit was transported to the winery for immediate pressing with minimal skin contact. After settling, each batch was cool fermented in stainless steel using a variety of cultured yeasts to add complexity to the blend and to retain the fresh fruit characteristics from each of the vineyards.

TASTING NOTE
Fragrant aromas of spice, pear and stone fruit with underlying notes of brioche and freshly cut spring flowers. A medium-bodied, textural wine showing flavours of ripe pear, apricot and a touch of spice. The acid structure is steely and consistent throughout and the finish very refreshing.
