MITOLO MITOLO "JESTER" McLAREN VALE SHIRAZ 2010

Mitolo "Jester" wines are superb value. They over deliver on bright and lifted fruit on the nose and an almost explosive fruit hit on the palate which make them highly appealing wines. The "Jester" Shiraz really packs a whole load of flavour.

VINEYARD
The grapes come from the Willunga district of McLaren Vale, where there are heavy grey loam soils over sandstone, intermixed with black Biscay clay. These soils combined with the maritime climate, contribute to an even ripening period and the development of rich fruit flavours and ripe tannins.

Yields are around 4 tons an acre.

In 2010, McLaren Vale experienced a mild growing season with ideal conditions for budburst and flowering. Most inland regions had a reduction in fruit set due to a burst of heat in November, however in McLaren Vale, due to it?s proximity to the ocean, the effects were nullified. Good early season rainfall contributed to the already rejuvenated water table and the fruit ripened evenly without any heat stress. Cool nights and mild days allowed good acid maintenance, keeping the fruit bright and flavoursome but above all, balanced.

GRAPE VARIETIES
91% Syrah/Shiraz, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Grenache

VINIFICATION
The fruit was fermented on its skins for 5 / 6 days. The wine was pressed and underwent partial barrel fermentation. A natural malolactic fermentation was completed before the wine was racked.

The wine was aged in 2-4 year old French barrels for 9 months.

TASTING NOTE
The Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2010 displays an opaque dark crimson colour with deep black crimson hue. The nose gives blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas, while on the palate the wine displays abundant flavours of liquorice, blackberry and dark fruits. There is exceptional balance, refinement and generosity of flavour.
