Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2010 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2010

This estate, run by the De Marchi familiy, is one of the most respected in Chianti. This classic Chianti Classico wine is deep crimson colour with typical sour cherry and red fruits - a benchmark Chianti!

The grapes are grown on the Isole e Olena estate which covers 45 hectares, of which 42 are planted with vines and 45 are in production. The vineyards are approximately 400 metres above sea level and face south-west. The oldest vines on the estate were planted in 1958 and the youngest in 1999. Paolo De Marchi took over the running of the family-owned estate in the mid 1970's and 1976 was his first vintage.

80% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo, 5% Syrah

Fermentation took place in tank with 15 days maceration, delestage and pumping-over twice a day. Delestage (or `rack and return`) produces wines with good colour and soft tannins. De Marchi has used this method for all red wines since 1997. Maturation lasted one year and took place in barrel (with 5% new oak) and 4,000 litre oak casks.

A deep crimson red colour with a typical sour cherry and red fruit character with bramble notes. The palate has a supple, lithe character full of perfumed fruit and given depth by a mineral vein. Structure comes from the taut acidity and tannin structure.
