GROSSET SPRINGVALE WATERVALE RIESLING 2011 GROSSET SPRINGVALE WATERVALE RIESLING 2011

Jeffrey Grosset has been making some of Australia's best Riesling for the last 30 years. The winery is stylish and functionsal and reflects the attention to detail that Grosset extends to all his wines. The "Springvale" Riesling is classic Clare - elegant and restrained and a top quality example of the Clare style.

VINEYARD
Hilltop-sited "Springvale" is the highest (460m) and coolest vineyard in the Watervale sub-region. Planted on red loam over limestone, for which this area is renowned, this is a "soft rock" site. This highly sustaining combination of soil and rock insulates the drought sensitive Riesling, which produces lime-green fruit with medium sized berries and fuller bunches. "Springvale" is named after the original property where Riesling was first planted in the 1860s.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Riesling

VINIFICATION
All grapes were hand picked and vines hand pruned, shoot thinned and fruit thinned where necessary. Inoculated with neutral yeast only to maintain focus on natural fruit characters and expression of terroir. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. There was no skin contact and only the free-run juice was used. Fermented to <1g/L residual sugar.

TASTING NOTES
The 2011 Grosset Springvale Riesling has lemon, lime blossom aromatics and intense, pure tangy lime juice. Fine and impeccably focused, powerful and tight with mouth-watering zesty quartz minerality on a bone-dry finish that lingers. Layer after layer of flavour washes over the palate followed by a balanced, satisfying, taut grip.
