Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2013 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2013

This is the latest release of one of Australia's finest wines. A Clare Valley Riesling of incredible purity, balance and poise, this is one of the Clare's most sought after wines.

Located at the base of Mount Horrocks, at an elevation of 460 metres, the Polish Hill vineyard is a ?hard rock? site with shallow shale and a crust of clay marl over slate. These thin soils hamper the roots? downward development, so the vines struggle. Relatively close-planted, a "modified ballerina" training system provides ideal exposure. The fruit is typically small, in berry and bunch size.

The 2013 vintage commenced with high expectations, as the growing season was ideal and the quality of the fruit was superb. The weather conditions encouraged early flavour development and hand harvesting commenced in mid-February. Dry and warm conditions continued each day until the last grapes were harvested until mid-March.

100% Riesling

The emphasis through winemaking is on achieving purity of fruit. The winemaking process is gentle and uncomplicated.

The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed so the free run juice could be extracted. Fermentation took place over two weeks in moderate temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with natural yeast so as to maintain the natural fruit characters and expression of variety and place.

The flavours of the Grosset Polish Hill Riesling are tight, fine and dry and show schisty minerality and bright lime zest flavours. It has the complexity and intensity that you'd expect: precise, detailed and clearly focused. The wine has an appealing softness, with impeccable balance on its vibrant, zingy, dry finish.
