DR. LOOSEN ERDENER TREPPCHEN RIESLING KABINETT 2007 DR. LOOSEN ERDENER TREPPCHEN RIESLING KABINETT 2007

This Kabinett, from a "grand cru" ("Erste Lage") vineyard in the village of Erden combines extraordinary concentration and length with a bracing minerality. An elegant, yet muscular, aperitif wine, this is also an excellent partner for lighter seafood and poultry dishes that emphasize fresh ingredients.

VINEYARD
The Erdener Treppchen (pronounced AIR-din-er TREP-shen) - the little staircase of Erden vineyard is so steep that long ago stone steps were built into the hillside to enable workers to reach the vines. The iron-rich, red slate soil produces wines that are muscular and complex, with an intense minerally finish. They are more like a hard-body rock climber than the graceful ballet dancer of Wehlen, and the wines benefit greatly from a few years in the bottle to develop fully.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Riesling

VINIFICATION
Loosen wines are all treated to minimal handling to maximise the ability of the varied vineyards to shine through in the wines.

The grapes are whole cluster pressed before undergoing a long, slow and cold fermentation with natural yeasts. All the wines are fermented in casks and no filtration or de-acidification takes place.

TASTING NOTE
Bright, racy acidity alongside beautifully fragrant but clean minerality and then plenty of citrus and stone fruit, with a mineral finish that accentuates the freshness of this wine.
