Domaine de la Butte - Bourgueil - Pied de la Butte 2011 Domaine de la Butte - Bourgueil - Pied de la Butte 2011

There's a new star emerging in the central Loire valley and his name is Jacky Blot. Not only does he sport a rather dashing (and very French) moustache but he makes some very fine wines from his estates in Montlouis and this one in Bourgueil. The early drinking Cabernet Franc wine offers generous, savoury black cherry and cranberry fruit with a soft texture.

VINEYARD
Hailing from the Bourgueil appellation in the mid-Lorire valley the whole of the Domaine de la Butte vineyards is now planted with Cabernet Franc. The average age of vines almost forty years across the vineyards, with the vines at "la pied de la Butte" averaging thirty to forty years.

The solids are clay on limestone and the vines are trained as simple Guyot with green harvesting to control the yields.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Cabernet Franc

VINIFICATION
The grapes were harvested manually and hand sorted on tables place at the row ends before being transported to the winery in small crates. The yield was 35 hl/ha

The grapes were de-stemmed and fermented using wild yeast in concrete vats for two weeks. Malolatic fermentation took place in the concrete vats.

The wine was then stored in stainless steel vats for 6 months before being bottled in April 2012.

TASTING NOTE
