Domaine Charles Jouget Chinon Cuve Terroir 2010 Domaine Charles Jouget Chinon Cuvée Terroir 2010

Domine Charles Jouget makes some of the finest wines in the Loire Valley and is certainly one of the best producers of Chinon. If you're unfamiliar with Chinon, the complexity in this bottle of wine will astound you, as will its versatility at table. Why not give some a try?

The terroir of Beaumont-en-Véron: the 10 ha of vines planted in 1988 on this siliceous plateau located between the Loire and the Vienne form the estate's most consistent plot. Average yield: 45 hl/ha (or 1,820 litres per acre).

The left bank of the Vienne river: On this tight stretch of what was once the Vienne riverbed and hence on alluvial soil, the 12 ha of vines that were planted between 1969 and today, lie between the communes of Anché and Sazilly. Average yield: 45 hl/ha (or 1,820 litres per acre).

100% Cabernet Franc

This "cuvée" is made with grapes from the vines of Beaumont-en-Véron, with the addition of press and free-run wines from the alluvial soil of the left bank of the Vienne.

The grapes are destemmed without crushing and then undergo 5 days of skin maceration at cool temperatures.

There is then a rapid start to fermentation, at maximum temperature of 25°C for 10 days - the fermentation is sometimes interrupted before completion to maintain the aroma and vitality of the blend. The press wines add a little tannic lift, structure and body to the wine

Malolactic fermentation takes place in vats, after the wine is drawn off and during the winter this wine is naturally chilled.

The wine then undergoes a number of rackings and the wine matures in the stainless steel vat until bottling at the end of the spring.

The Charles Jouget Cuvee Terrior 2010 is an attractive ruby colour with a fresh nose of fruits and spices with a hint of capsicum. The palate is full and soft with dark fruit flavours. It's delicate and not excessively herbal.
