CHARLES HEIDSIECK BRUT RESERVE NV CHARLES HEIDSIECK BRUT RESERVE NV

Charles Heidsieck is one of the great names of Champagne and produces some of the finest of all Champagne. Started in 1851, the foundation of its modern fame rests on the work done by winemaker Daniel Thibault, whose style has come to define the house style. We're delighted to be able to add the House of Chareles Heidsieck to our portfolio. This wine swept the board at this yea's Decanter World Wine Awards, winning a trophy as the best Sparkling Wine.

VINEYARD
Charles Heidsieck have built exceptional relationships with the most experienced growers across the entire Champagne region, and can draw on a rich palette of crus. A precise selection of grapes takes place from 60 specific sites across the Champagne appellation.

GRAPE VARIETIES
34% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier

VINIFICATION
After the first fermentation in stainless steel, each tank undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the natural acidity. Wines from 60 different sites are used in the blend, together with 40% reserve wines (the maximum permitted) with an average age of 10 years.

The blend is then bottled, selected yeast added to begin the second fermentation, then placed in the cellar at a temperature of about 10°C. In order to achieve the depth and complexity required by the house style, Charles Heidsieck age their Non-Vintage champagne for three years before disgorging, much longer than the legal requirement of 15 months.

TASTING NOTE
A radiant pale gold appearance with fine, persistent bubbles. Complex pastry shop aromas are followed by an opulent combination of ripe apricot, mango and greengage plum fruit along with dried fruits, pistachio and almond. The palate begins with a silky smooth sensation, developing into ripe fleshy apricot, melon and enticing plum pastry flavours, ending with delicate spice. A perfect balance of freshness and full bloom.
