Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Malbec 2009 Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Malbec 2009

Catena's single vineyard Malbecs never cease to amaze. This example from the vineyard named after Catena's youngest Daughter, is a brooding, deep dark wine but with a lovely rich and exciting fruit core that shines through from this finely structured wine.

97 points from Robert Parker.

The Catena family has conducted extensive research into the soils and microclimates of Mendoza's high altitude wine country in the foothills of the Andes mountains.

Planted in 1992, the Adrianna Vineyard has Malbec vines on original rootstock that were part of a massal population from the Catena family's historic, 80 year old Angélica vineyard.

The soil in the vineyard is predominantly sand.

100% Malbec

De-stemmed, whole berry fruit is hand loaded into 225 litre new French oak barrels; 100% barrel fermented for seamless oak integration; Low fermentation temperatures extract intense aromas; all cap management done by hand for soft, gentle flavour and tannin extraction; alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel leaves considerable lees and sediment.

The Catena Zapata Adrianna 2009 is a violet with black tones malbec from the highest Catena´s family vineyard. It offers aromas of ripe red fruits, lavender, violets, coconut and tobacco. Powerful and deep, with a grip and flavours of cassis, dark chocolate and minerals. With liquorice notes, remarkable concentration, and structured tannins.
