Best's Great Western Bin 0 Shiraz 2009 Best's Great Western Bin 0 Shiraz 2009

Best's Great Western have produced Shiraz since the late 1800s. Bin 0 is made to be an age worthy style and has been the undisputed icon of Great Western Shiraz for many decades. It is internationally acclaimed as one of Australia's finest Shiraz wines.

Rated as "Distinguished" in Langton's Classification of Australian wine

Best's Bin 0 Shiraz is generally produced from the oldest plantings and selected from the lowest yielding blocks of the historic Concongella vineyard at Great Western. This includes 19th century and mid 20th century plantings of Shiraz which result in very low yielding, intense vines. The fruit is hand-selected and sorted.

Climatically cold to very cold winters and frequently dry and cool summers, with occasional bursts of hot weather, are the norm.

In recent years Bin 0 Shiraz comes only from four heritage Shiraz blocks surrounding the winery and homestead. These are the 1868 Thomson Family Block, the 1966 "Bart's Block", 1970 Block and The Hill. Each of these blocks provides unique characters to the resulting wine - The Hill block for instance provides an aromatic dimension to its fruit because of the fast draining white gravel soil.

100% Shiraz

Vinification takes place in open stainless steel fermenters.

The wine is matured in a combination of one third new and one and two year old French and American oak (barriques and puncheons) for around 12 months.

Best's Great Western Bin 0 Shiraz 2009 has a deeply tinted ruby /garnet with a magenta hue. The nose has rich opulent aromas of dark ripe fruits lifted by peppery bush spices, wildflowers and delicately toasted French oak. The palate has intense velvety dark fruit restrained by fine crumbly tannins. The balance of perfumed fruit, tight-grained oak and minerality lingers in the mouth.
