Allegrini Allegrini "La Poja" 2007

Allegrini's La Poja is made solely from late harvest Corvina (the grape of Valpolicella) grapes. It is a classic example of what can be achieved with careful wine making and a great vineyard and the wine has wonderful intensity, personality, balance and persistence.

ONLY AVAILABLE IN CASES OF 6

VINEYARD
Located at the top of Podere La Grola, SantíAmbrogio di Valpolicella, the vineyard comprises 2.65 ha planted in 1979 at 310 metres above sea level, with south-east exposure. The soil is well-drained calcareous (78.5% chalk) and stony. Soils are marginally alkaline and combine with the active limestone content to reduce the vines vigour.

Double Guyot trained vines with about 4200 vines per hectare, with an average age of 21 years.

The yield is 42 Hl/Ha.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Corvina

VINIFICATION
2006 growing and ripening conditions were good, with steady temperatures and the right amount of rainfall. The grapes were harvested on sunny days in late September.

The grapes were de-stemmed and crushed with maceration lasting 12-15 days with regular, daily pumping over.

Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tank between 22-31ºC with maloactic in November.

The wine was then racked into new Allier oak barriques where it aged for 20 months, followed by 8 months in tank.

TASTING NOTE
The Allegrini "La Poja" 2006 has tremendous colour with lovely dark perfumes of spice, dark cherries and black fruit given greater depth by an elegant mineral character. On the palate it is full-bodied and powerful, with concentrated oak and fruit in perfect balance, ripe, rounded tannins and a long, spiced finish.
